Spice Up & Upgrade Your Ketchup! My Top 5 Spice Combos
homemadeketchup.jpg

Ketchup is the number one condiment in America and its becoming more and more popular around the world. If you can’t live without ketchup, here are 5 ways to make it better, healthier, more delicious, more exotic and more fun. No more boring generic ketchup! Spice it up my friends.

Side note:  Whenever possible, try to find reduced sugar ketchup for your kids and family, or even better, you can make your own reduced or sugar free ketchup at home.  See the simple recipe below!

And now to my Top 5 Spiced Ketchup list:

When you make the below combos, start with a quarter teaspoon for every cup of ketchup. Spices from different regions/ producers come in different levels of strength.  Feel free to add more and fix seasoning as necessary.  Just follow your taste buds.

Curry Ketchup – simply mix your favorite curry powder into your ketchup. Exotic and delicious, perfect for fries.

Smoked Paprika Ketchup – (or mix Sweet and Hot Paprika if you can’t find smoked)- Works great with grilled foods or roasted potatoes.

Cumin & Turmeric Ketchup – this is my Middle Eastern ketchup combo, great anti-inflammatory

Spicy Cilantro Ketchup – ¼ cup of chopped fresh cilantro with chili powder or cayenne pepper. (cilantro cleans heavy metal from your blood and cayenne is  great for your metabolism)

Ginger & Tarragon Ketchup – not your mama's combo, but the sweetness of the tarragon and the punch of the ginger will bring your ketchup to another level of taste. Just grate in a little fresh ginger with few chopped tarragon leaves.

Bonus recipe! Basil-Garlic Ketchup – that’s my Italian style ketchup – ¼ cup fresh basil, tea spoon of fresh minced garlic (great anti-viral combo) feel free to add some dried oregano to the mix.

Home-made Ketchup recipe

  • 8 oz. – Tomato sauce no sugar added
  • 6 oz. – Tomato paste no sugar added
  • 2 Tbsp – white vinegar
  • 1/8 cup – brown sugar or 2 tbsp agave nectar – make sure you taste as you go so its not too sweet for your liking.
  • Mix well, place in a used ketchup bottle and enjoy.

Have a spicy day my friends
